Sing with Taranaa:
Singing Made Easy
Song information and feed back

This song originally sung by music legend late Clarence Wijewardana. His voice, his songs captured Sri Lankan audience by storm. In 1960s he formed the group Moonstone at the age of 21. He was also known as the father of Sri Lankan pop music. He is a song writer a music composer and also a great entertainer. I had a fortune to watch him on stage back in Sri Lanka when I was little and also here in the US where I took the opportunity to talk to him personally a few words. Clarence ayya, you'll be remembered as long as music rings through our ears.

I wanted to sing this song with a very minute twist. I changed the name in this song Dileepa to Dinisha which is the name of my son and doing so I think it won't hurt the flow of the song. Hope you all don't get mad for doing this. He is now 6yrs old and I do not think I have enough words or I am literate enough to describe how much I love him.

Recently one Ed signing my guess book asked me to sing songs from different artists. With that also in mind I recorded this song. So here it is Ed, a song from the legendary Clarence Wijewardana.

Original singer - Clarence Wijewardana
Music track - Torana music box

What this song is all about

This song is about a little son and the father sings a song about him. In this, Dinisha is the son. I have attempted to give the meaning of the song as much as possible. Hope you get the meaning behind the lyrics.

Dinisha podi puthu
Dinisha little son
Saneepayata nidi
Comfortably sleeping
Mawage ukul yahane
In the cradle of mother’s lap
Kumarayaneni
Prince, your highness
Mage kirula himi, Jeewana raja dahane
you own my crown in the kingdom of life

Mhada wimanaye
in my heart and soul
Thenpath kala le biduwak aduwa ethe
a drop of blood is missing
(a drop of blood that was in my soul is missing)
Eya sagawagena
being kept that hidden
Bilindu wesin Aa
you came as a baby
Wasthuwa obaya puthe
you are a bundle of treasure, son

Parawi depa weni, Sulalitha komala
Just like very sophisticated and delicate bird feet
{lyricist used pigeon (Parewi) to symbolize innocence too, I believe}
Sumudu tikiri dethe
Your tiny silky hands
Puthu mita molawan, Sangawagena etha
Son is hiding in his fist
Ma noliyuwa geethe
The song that I’ve never written

Dinisha podi puthu .........
